I wish you a new season filled with love, joy, peace, big moves and success! 

In today’s fast-paced and constantly changing world, it’s more important than ever to stay ahead of the curve and relevant. To do so, learning and adapting to new challenges and opportunities is essential. As I reflect on my adventures, experiences and learning over the past year, I want to share my top eight lessons to help you succeed in 2023 and beyond. I took a huge leap by leaving my steady full-time public sector job to explore the world of entrepreneurship, my first full year leading my own company and doing things from scratch. And what a journey it has been! I’ve learned so much, from the importance of self-awareness and soft skills to practical experience and continuous learning; these lessons will provide valuable insights and strategies for achieving success in your personal and professional life. Whether you’re just starting your journey or well-established in your career, these lessons will help you stay on track and reach your goals.  

This is a sneak preview of my thoughts; I’ll follow up each week with a deeper dive into each lesson and share some practical tips to apply the lessons to your context and experience! 

 So, here goes! 

  1. Self-awareness unlocks purpose – By understanding who you are and what you want to achieve, you can set yourself up for success and fulfilment in all areas of your life. 
  2. Soft skills are the new black – Empathy, kindness, and other soft skills are increasingly important for success in the modern workplace, especially for leaders. 
  3. Well-being is essential for success – By prioritising your well-being, you can improve your overall health and performance and set yourself up for success in all aspects of your life. 
  4. Leading versus managing – Leading and managing are two different roles that are both important for achieving success in the workplace. Understanding the differences between these roles and how to balance them effectively is important. 
  5. Successful actions require effective strategy – Analysis and planning are important, but they are only a small part of the puzzle. To achieve real success, it’s crucial to have a well-thought-out strategy that guides your actions and helps you achieve your goals. 
  6. Experience is the best teacher – Practical experience is a valuable source of learning and personal growth. It allows us to learn from our successes and mistakes and adjust and improve based on what we’ve learned. 
  7. Learning is the skill of the millennium – In a rapidly changing world, the ability to continuously learn and adapt is more important than ever. By building learning as a skill, you can continuously adapt and grow in your personal and professional life, setting yourself up for success in the 
  8. Gratitude is the currency of abundance: By making gratitude a regular part of your life, you can cultivate a sense of abundance and well-being that will serve you well in your personal and professional endeavours.
